Thompson Island
Historic site of the only Revolutionary War battle in NW PA.
Thompson Island is the most historically significant island in the Allegheny River. In August 1779, during the Brodhead Expedition, American troops engaged in a skirmish with Seneca warriors here. Today, the island is a peaceful wilderness sanctuary, accessible only by boat, where visitors can walk through ancient alluvial forests and reflect on the region's complex colonial and indigenous history.
