Seldom Seen

A remote historic settlement site in the southern forest.

Seldom Seen is an atmospheric historic site that marks the remains of a remote 19th-century settlement in the southern Allegheny National Forest. As the name suggests, its location was once so isolated that it was rarely visited by those outside the immediate community of timber workers and their families. Today, all that remains are a few stone foundations and clearing edges, now being reclaimed by a forest of black cherry and maple. It is a poignant destination for "ghost town" enthusiasts and hikers who enjoy tracing the footprints of the hardy individuals who once attempted to tame the most secluded reaches of the plateau.
