Pithole City
The legendary "Oil Boom" ghost town.
Pithole City is the legendary "Oil Boom" ghost town that famously grew from a single farm to a city of 15,000 people in just months, only to vanish almost as quickly. In 1865, Pithole was a den of speculation, featuring 57 hotels and the first oil pipeline. Today, the site is managed as a historic landmark where the streets and cellar holes are marked with interpretive signs, allowing visitors to walk the footprints of a vanished metropolis. The visitor center offers a detailed model of the city at its peak, providing a hauntingly beautiful look at the "boom and bust" nature of the oil rush.
