Longfellow Trail
A walk through the "Cathedral Forest" of ancient pines.
The Longfellow Trail is the crown jewel of the Cook Forest trail system, leading hikers directly into the heart of the "Forest Cathedral." This National Natural Landmark contains some of the tallest and oldest white pine and hemlock trees in the Northeastern United States, many dating back over 300 years. Walking the Longfellow is often described as a spiritual experience, as the trail winds through a primordial landscape where the forest floor is carpeted in needles and the canopy rises like the vaulted ceiling of a living cathedral.
