Hickory Creek Wilderness
8,663 acres of untamed, federally protected forest.
The Hickory Creek Wilderness is a federally protected 8,663-acre sanctuary where "the earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man." As one of only two designated wilderness areas in the Allegheny National Forest, it is strictly managed to remain free of motorized vehicles, mechanical equipment, and permanent structures. It offers a rare opportunity to experience a large, contiguous forest block in its natural state, providing a vital refuge for black bear, bobcat, and those seeking the highest level of forest solitude.
