Hearts Content Scenic Area
A rare tract of old-growth white pine and hemlock forest.
Hearts Content Scenic Area is a crown jewel of the eastern United States, containing a 122-acre remnant of original old-growth white pine and hemlock forest. Some of the trees here are over 400 years old, reaching heights of 150 feet. Designated as a National Natural Landmark, this area was saved from the 19th-century timber boom by the Wheeler & Dusenbury Lumber Company. It offers a cathedral-like atmosphere with interpretive trails that guide visitors through one of the last remaining primeval forests in Pennsylvania.
