Hearts Content National Scenic Area
A rare 122-acre remnant of original old-growth forest.
Designated as a National Natural Landmark, Hearts Content contains ancient white pine and hemlock trees, some documented at over 400 years old and reaching heights of 150 feet. Saved from the 19th-century timber boom, the area offers a cathedral-like atmosphere with interpretive trails that guide visitors through one of the last remaining primeval forests in the Eastern United States.
