Baker Island

Primitive wilderness island for boat-in camping.

Baker Island is one of the seven protected gems of the Allegheny Islands Wilderness, a part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. This 67-acre island offers a rare "leave no trace" camping experience where the only access is by boat. Dense with silver maples and sycamores, the island provides a primitive sanctuary for paddlers on the Allegheny River. Its gravel bars and surrounding riffles are also prime spots for observing river life and enjoying the absolute solitude of a mid-river wilderness.
